I am very excited to join the practice at Avenues for Health and to work alongside an incredible group of women physicians, who share the same values and ideas as I do regarding integrative healthcare. I come from a family of integrative health care providers, and I am grateful to have found a practice that allows me to utilize this integrative medicine in treating patients.

I was raised in a small town in Iowa to immigrant parents from Pakistan. I attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and majored in biochemistry. I decided to become a doctor in college and continued my education at University of Iowa Medical School. I graduated in 1989 and decided to try living on the East Coast for a change. I did my first 2 years of Ob/Gyn residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY and then transferred to the other coast to finish my residency at Kaiser Santa Clara.

After residency, I worked at Menlo Medical Clinic, in Menlo Park and Stanford University Hospital for 5 years. At this time, my husband was relocated to Modesto, CA, so I followed. In Modesto, I worked in a very busy OB/Gyn practice for 9 years. My husband and I decided to move back to the Bay area for our children's education, both of whom were in grade school at the time. We felt the schools in the Bay area were of a higher quality and we were right.

When my husband got a job at John Muir Medical Center, I decided to look at practices in the East Bay. I did locum tenens work for 1 year and saw patients for Dr. Karin Denevi, when she went on vacation. During this time, I became acquainted with the practice and the staff at Avenues for Health. I found a group of physicians with a similar practice style as mine, integrating alternative therapies with modern medicine to manage and treat patients. I truly believe, integrative medicine allows for a broader approach to healing as well as a safer and possibly more effective healthcare.
