Gynecologic Surgery

Comprehensive Gynecology

Dr. Karin DeNevi and Dr. Tina Edraki perform a variety of outpatient and inpatient hospital surgeries to assist their patients with serious gynecologic disorders including cervical dysplasia (precancerous changes of the cervix), abnormal uterine bleeding, incontinence, and genital prolapse. They have worked continuously to remain on the cutting edge of surgical science in their field, particularly with regard to minimally invasive laparoscopic and resectoscopic surgery. They translate that experience into time spent exploring all surgical options with each woman, to identify the safest, least invasive, most effective surgical choice for her.

Operative Laparoscopy has created a revolution in gynecology. It involves the use of multiple small ports placed into the abdomen and pelvis through which operating instruments can be used to perform major surgeries without making a large incision. Examples of surgeries which Dr. DeNevi and Dr. Edraki perform in this manner include; treatment of endometriosis, ovarian cystectomy, oophorectomy (removal of an ovary), and laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy. This can sometimes even be performed in the presence of large uterine fibroids. These physicians are dedicated to continually expanding their skills in this and other surgical fields through ongoing continuing education and experience.

Uterine Resectoscopic Surgery is a minimally invasive technique in which we operate through the uterine cervix to remove abnormalities from inside the uterine cavity. This technique has significantly reduced the need for hysterectomy, and is one of the most common surgeries we perform. It is often the procedure of choice for women with heavy vaginal bleeding and an intrauterine abnormality, such as polyps or fibroids.

Dr. DeNevi and Dr. Edraki are also skilled in conventional surgical techniques, such as abdominal hysterectomy, which may be necessary when other less invasive techniques are not practical.

Dr. DeNevi and Dr. Edraki have also completed training in the office evaluation of patients with urinary incontinence. This allows them to understand whether a patient would benefit from surgery, and what surgery would provide the best outcome. They have both worked as an assistant to various urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive specialists to provide their patients with the best surgical team and experience available.

Dr. DeNevi and Dr. Edraki perform gynecologic surgery at San Ramon Regional Medical Center, a facility dedicated to advanced minimally invasive surgery. You can learn more about our hospital via its website, at www.sanramonmedctr.com.
